## Nalanda University

- Founder: Kumargupta
- Famous students  
  - Aryabhatta
  - Chinese Pilgrims Huien Tsang and Fa-Hien
- All sects of Buddhism flourished here. i.e. Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana
- The monastic university of Nalanda is a maha vihara as it is a complex of several monasteries of various sizes

## Taxila University

- It was one of the ancient world‘s first international university
- Situated strategically on a branch of the Silk Road that linked China to the West
- TakshaShila was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980 and is located near Rawalpindi in modern-day Pakistan.

- Founder: Dharmpala
- Vajrayana Buddhism flourished here
