  1. A heat wave is declared for hilly regions when the maximum temperature of a station touches at least 40 degrees Celsius.
  2. Heatwave is declared when the departure from normal temperature is by 4.5 to 6.4 degrees Celsius.

Which of the statements given above is/are incorrect?

a) Both 1 and 2

b) 1 only

c) 2 only

d) Neither 1 nor 2

Ans: c

Exp:

What is a heatwave?

According to the IMD, heatwave is considered when the maximum temperature of a station touches at least 40 degrees Celsius or more for plains, 37 degrees Celsius or more for coastal regions and at least 30 degrees Celsius or more for hilly regions. Hence statement 1 is not correct.

What are the criteria?

Heatwave is declared when the departure from normal temperature is by 4.5 to 6.4 degrees Celsius. Hence statement 2 is correct.

Severe heatwave is when the departure from normal is more than 6.4 degrees Celsius.

For plains, based on actual maximum temperature, IMD considers heatwaves when actual maximum temperature is more than 45 degrees Celsius and severe heat wave when it is more than 47 degrees Celsius.

This apart, if the locality records over 45 degrees and 47 degrees on any given day, then the IMD declares heatwave and severe heatwave.

6. Sushma attends 40 questions and get 96 marks. If 3 marks are given for each correct answer and 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer, find the number of questions she attended correct?

a) 15

b) 34

c) 32

d) 36

Ans: b

Exp: The number of questions she answered correctly is 34.

Given :

• Total no. of questions she attended = 40

• Marks obtained = 96 marks

• 3 marks obtained for each correct answer

• 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer

To find :

• Number of questions she answered correctly

Solution :

Let,

Correctly answered questions = x

Incorrect answered questions = 40 - x

Mark obtained for correct answers = 3x

Mark deducted for wrong answers = -1(40-x)

So,

➨ 3x - 1 (40 - x) = 96

➨ 3x - 40 + x = 96

➨ 3x + x = 96 + 40

➨ 4x = 136

➨ x = 136 / 4

➨ x = 34

Therefore, the number of questions she answered correctly is 34.

7. Find the ‘x’ in the series given below:
