In today's interconnected world, international summits and conferences play a critical role in shaping global cooperation and addressing pressing issues.

These high-level gatherings bring together world leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss a wide range of topics, from security threats and economic challenges to climate change and public health emergencies.

Understanding the themes and outcomes of these events is crucial for UPSC aspirants.

World Government Summit 2024

  • The World Government Summit is an annual global gathering that brings world leaders, policymakers, experts, etc together, from various fields to address important global issues.
  • The theme of this year’s summit was “Shaping Future Governments”
  • The summit was established in 2013 under the leadership of the UAE and is annually held in Dubai, UAE.
  • The Summit explores the agenda of the next generation of governments, focusing on harnessing innovation and technology to solve universal challenges facing humanity.

FIPIC Summit, 2023

  • The summit was held at Port Moresby, jointly hosted by India with Papua New Guinea.
  • Forum for India-Pacific Islands cooperation (FIPIC) is a multinational grouping for cooperation between India and 14 Pacific Islands nations.
  • The grouping was conceptualized when the countries met in Suva, Fiji in November 2014.


6th ICDRI

  • International Conference On Disaster Resilient Infrastructure or ICDRI is the annual international conference of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.
  • It aims to improve the resilience of infrastructure systems to climate and disaster risks.
  • CDRI is India’s second major global initiative and was launched in 2019, at the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York.
  • The CDRI Secretariat is based in New Delhi, India.
  • It is supported by the United Nations Development Programme and United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Global Pulses Conference

  • It is an annual gathering of pulses producers and traders organized by NAFED and the Global Pulse Confederation.
  • It is held in line with India’s aim to achieve self-sufficiency in pulses by 2027.
  • Global Pulse Confederation is based in Dubai and its membership includes 24 national associations and over 500 private sector members.
  • India is the largest producer, consumer and importer of pulses in the world.
  • Top pulses producing states are Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.


1st ASEAN Future Forum

  • The ASEAN Future Forum was proposed by Vietnam at the 43rd ASEAN Summit in 2023.
  • It will serve as a platform to share new ideas and policy recommendations for promoting and shaping ASEAN’s development path.
  • It was held in Hanoi,Vietnam and the theme was ‘Towards fast and sustainable growth of a people-centered ASEAN Community’.
  • ASEAN or Association of Southeast Asian Nations is a group of South East Asian countries, established in 1967, with the signing of the Bangkok declaration.

Asian Buddhist Conference For Peace

  • Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace was founded by followers of Buddhism in 1970 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
  • It was founded as a result of Cold War politics, rise in peace movements, consolidation of allies, and building popular outreach 
  • Its objective is to amalgamate and consolidate universal peace, harmony, and cooperation among people in Asia.
  • Shri Dhankhar welcomed the participants to the 12th ABCP General Assembly, recognizing its importance in a world undergoing historic and transformational changes.
  • Active participation was seen from Mongolia, Japan, India, Cambodia, Bhutan, Russia, Laos, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand etc.

World Sustainable Development Summit 

  • This summit is the annual flagship event of the Energy and Resources Institute.
  • It is the only independently convened international summit on sustainable development based in the Global South.
  • It is based on the theme ‘Leadership for the Sustainable Development and Climate Justice’.
  • TERI was established in 1974 as an information center on energy issues with headquarters in New Delhi.

World Investment Conference

  • Invest India hosted the 27th World Investment Conference for global collaboration and discussion on the future of investments.
  • The World Investment Conference is the flagship event of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies. 
  • The event will be held under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade with the theme of “Empowering Investors: IPAs Pioneering Future Growth.” 
  • There will be “The Startup-Investor Connect program,” facilitating connections between international startups and venture capital funds.
  • It was held in India for the first time
